Packing up and everything in between! Week 1 – Part 3

Time to finish up the rest of week 1.  First up, some highlights from Harpers Ferry.

Harpers Ferry is a favorite for all of the kids.  They learn about John Brown and make the decision to follow him or not.  At the end of the day, they are given a role.  The options are, military, home front, war relief, or reporter.  Within each role, they reenact each job.

I love this captured moment.  Their expressions are so genuine.  It is pure joy.  All the boys are so comfortable with each other.  I hope that they continue their friendship miles a part.

This guy was one of my favorites!  At the Capitol tour, each scholar is given an audio guide for the tour.  Amongst all of the large tour groups, are small individual ones given by Representatives’ interns.  Those tours are much more personal and include a little different information.  This guy was listening in to one of those tours and heard that the Ronald Regan statue contains pieces from the Berlin Wall.  Can you see where they are? You may have to click on the picture to enlarge it.

Another fun fact, Texas has the largest State Capitol in the U.S.  Sam Houston made an appearance in a hall full of statues.  Please disregard the unattractive burnt orange stand.

Week 1 Part 4 will wrap up my first week.  Warning: there will be laundry present.
